Personality: 

doleful- Rigel is prone to sadness, especially when she has time to herself without tasks. She is constantly reminded that she is not like others and needs to be kept hidden away from the rest of the herd. Her mother loves her, but her father turns his nose up to her... it seems to the doe that Helena is the only person who truly loves her, and this troubles her greatly. She suffers in silence, however, unwilling to let others know that she is troubled unless they pry it out of her. 

obedient- What Papa Pietro and Mama say, goes. This usually means keeping her in the more secluded areas of their glade and not speaking whenever Pietro is around. She will dutifully go hide when other Lords and Ladies come into the glade, or to at least be polite, let them gawk, and continue her studies. 

helpful- Despite being physically weak, she loves helping out those under her charge. Anything from picking berries to mashing herbs to make a poultice, she is on-task and does so happily. 

determined- The doe becomes more confident a she ages, and embraces her appearance and deformities as a part of her. She works hard to do her best in whatever she is doing, and has a difficult time giving up on something (or someone). 

bookish- Although she knows that she cannot run fast or lift heavy objects, she sees in time that her mind is her greatest gift. Sharp and intelligent, she learns quicker than other fawns her age, which can cause her some frustration when being taught. She spends a great deal of time studying all of the religions of the islands with her mother, even though unlike her she wonders which is the correct 'story'. She could spend hours gathering and identifying herbs and aspects of her magical ability. 

shy- Never the first to introduce herself, Rigel is quiet and prefers to be addressed and respond to that. She avoids large crowds, and prefers one on one contact. 


Appearance: 
Build- Rigel is slight in build, thin-limbed, knobby kneed and gangly. Her neck arches into a curve (think Arabian horse), and she ends up having relatively good strength in her quarters through training.

Coat- Curly, with poof-like mane and tail and medium-length curls all over her body. Coat gets longer and thicker in the winter. 

Head- A little dished, with a small nose, very large ears with tips that curl over, and small mouth. Her mane is long, extremely curly, and very fine in texture. She has a single horn, curved like a crescent moon and two small tines that protrude from the front. 

Tail- Long, whippy, she uses it to balance better. Tail hair is the same texture as mane, kept short.

Color- Chestnut and swarthy, with mottling of white all over her body. Around her eyes, it looks as though she is wearing spectacles.

History: 
TIMELINE:
Year 754 - Helena is born.
Year  758 - Crusoe is born and claimed by his mother's lord after being ashamed of having Lune as the sire. Lord Griffith (Helena's promised lord) dies in the fall of the Oak.
Year 759 - Crusoe (age 1) is forced to go down the path of being a guardsman.
Year 760 - Helena (age 6) is betrothed to Lord Cassius
Year 761 - Lord Cassius seeks out a hoofmaiden to tend to him and his new bride and employs Crusoe's mother.
Year 762 - Crusoe (age 4) becomes a cadet in the guard.
Year 763 - Lord Cassius dies suddenly, widowing Helena (age 9). Crusoe (age 5)  leaves to officially join the guard and his mother decides to continue her service to Helena until she is re-betrothed (at Cassius' request).
Year 765 - Helena is betrothed to Lord Pietro and Crusoe's mother leaves her service (intending only to serve her to fulfill her promise to the deceased lord). The doe finds herself in a harem and falls pregnant. 
Year 766 - The mother births Rigel, Crusoe's half sister, and her sire is unhappy. Vowing to dispose of the fawn, the mother takes her with intentions of offing the fawn. However, the doe could not force herself to kill the filly despite her fears. Panicked, she brought the fawn to Helena, knowing she would help. Helena, after agreeing to the terms of her Lord Pietro, takes in the fawn. To the public that knows, the mother wanted her daughter to serve the same princess she did and gave her up to be raised and trained by Helena's current maidens and other staff. But behind closed doors, Helena (along with her glade staff) raise the fawn with Helena loving her as her own and self-proclaiming herself as the filly's mother and loving her alongside her son, Lord Dunstan.

Rigel continues to live in Helena and Pietro's glade, being taken care of by the family's servants. When visitors arrive, she is whisked away, and can only see her "Mama" when the family is alone. Crusoe, her half brother, visits her when he is able to. 

With her mother missing and the rest of the Glade grieving the loss of their Princess, the spotted doe takes refuge within the servant's quarters and with Dunstan. The two have, despite their differences, grown nearly inseparable when the stagling is home.
